When Linkdex came out of Beta just 22 months ago we wanted to be the best at providing intelligence on the domains that link to the markets you’re trying to influence. So we introduced features like the ability to categorize websites by site type like Blogs and News sites.

Even back then we recognized the potential of trying to get to the people behind a domain and short-cut the research and engagement process. So about 9 months ago we started to develop the ability to analyze the author mark-up found in tens or hundreds of thousands of pages of content and present it to our users in just a few hours.

We also wanted to look beyond the authors that write and link to one domain and expand this to a whole market. So if there are 10 major SEO platforms out there that define the market, we’d want to tell you who writes about the market and how many in market they’ve written and linked to. So in Linkdex’s market I can tell you that Rand Fishkin has linked to 7 of our competitors but not Linkdex (yet!).

What’s interesting about this is that we’ve found half of the authors we analyze have linked to only one competitor in a market. This means they’re not as neutral or complete in their coverage of a market as those that have written about and linked to many more. In fact, the amount an author has covered a market appears to be a very good proxy for Influence.

We also wanted to layer other information to an Author profile. Data like the number of domains they write and / or get content syndicated on, the Influence of those domains, their Twitter ID, LinkedIn profile, G+ and Facebook pages, and Klout. All of which you can filter to take a very large list of Authors down to a smaller, more actionable list.

Once you have insights into who writes in your market we’ve made it easy to create contacts from Authors and Tag them in a way that allows you to create outreach campaigns in our new Campaigns tab. Although if you’d just like to export the Authors we’ve found, you can easily do this too.

The final bit of great news is we’re just getting going in this area and you can expect a constant stream of innovation in the social arena. Data that we hope you’ll find really actionable and in-step with this new area of search marketing we find ourselves in, where the people writing and sharing your content matter.
